WALK SAFE, WALK SMART: A PEDESTRIAN SAFETY WORKSHOP FOR OLDER ADULTS Thursday, July 31, 2008 10 a.m. to Noon G.K. Hardt Conference Room at Council on Aging 30 Kawana Springs Road, Santa Rosa (1st driveway east of Santa Rosa Avenue) Council on Aging, along with the Santa Rosa Police Department is sponsoring this free and interactive workshop on Thursday, July 31, from 10:00 am – 12 noon. Do you know how to stay safe on and off the road? Do you have ideas about how to make this community more pedestrian friendly? Where are the difficult crosswalks or crossings and why? What is problematic for seniors when crossing streets--is it the timing of the crosswalks, unmarked crosswalks, drivers not paying attention or all of the above? This workshop will feature two speakers, Marsha Rozell, Injury Prevention Coordinator Trauma Services at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and Julian Carroll, Senior Transportation Planner with Caltrans. They will provide information and look at ways to improve pedestrian safety and “walkability” for seniors in our community through dialogue and by sharing skills and tools to make walking safer. This seminar is free but seating is limited. To reserve your seat, please call Council on Aging at 525-0143 extension 101. As part of ongoing efforts to reduce pedestrian related injuries and fatalities among the older adult community, the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Program has formed a partnership with Council on Aging to reach out to seniors in our community. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. #####
