Welcome to the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force website. As you navigate through this information you will gain a better understanding of our community’s goal to reduce gang violence in Santa Rosa. Here you will find a comprehensive network of gang prevention and intervention resources as well as information on how you can become involved to help strengthen our effort to reclaim our youth for their families, school, community and future.
We have come to understand that gang violence is a community-wide issue that requires a community-wide response. Today we have a model, comprehensive, community action plan to reduce gang violence through a strong prevention, intervention and enforcement effort.
True gang prevention is more than a program; it is people like you who respond to the need and are filling to learn how to become involved. I hope that you will continue to visit this site where every (month) you will see a new Face of Gang Prevention and read the story behind the face. It may be one of our street outreach workers working with gang impacted youth, or it could be a volunteer working as a tutor in an after school program. It could also be a youth who is willing to tell you their story about how they were able to turn their life around and get out of the clutches of the gang life style.

Cuando usted navega a través de esta información, obtiene un mejor entendimiento de la meta de nuestra comunidad para reducir la violencia de las pandillas en Santa Rosa. Aquí encontrará una amplia red de prevención de pandillas y recursos de intervención, así como información sobre cómo usted puede participar para ayudar a fortalecer nuestros esfuerzos y para rescatar a nuestra juventud para sus familias, las escuelas, la comunidad y el futuro.
Hemos llegado a comprender que la violencia de las pandillas es un problema que afecta a toda la comunidad la cual requiere una respuesta de toda la comunidad. Hoy tenemos un modelo comprensivo y comunitario con un amplio plan de acción para reducir la violencia de las pandillas a través de una fuerte prevención y esfuerzos de las autoridades.
La verdadera prevención de pandillas es más que un programa, son personas como usted que responden a las neccesidades y están dispuestos a aprender cómo participar. Espero que usted continúe visitando este sitio donde todos (cada mes), podremos ver una nueva cara de Prevención de Pandillas y leer historias detrás de la cara. Puede ser uno de nuestros agentes de extensión de calle que trabajan con jóvenes afectados por pandillas, o puede ser un voluntario trabajando como profesor en un programa despuésto a decircle su historia sobre la forma en que fueron capaces de girar su vida alrededor y salir de las garas de las pandillas y de su estilo de vida. |

Role Models in the Community
The students from Amarosa enjoyed meeting Guy Fieri yesterday at the Food Service Conference at Finley Community Center. This was a wonderful opportunity for these young men to hear Guy speak. What a great role model for youth here in Santa Rosa to hear how Guy got his start in the food service industry.
On a monthly basis The Youth Employment Center takes students on Employer Presentation Field Trips so they may have an opportunity to talk to potential employers and find out what it is that they can do to improve their chances on getting hired somewhere in their near future! |

Gang Training Seminar for Parents, Educators and Business Professionals
The Santa Rosa Police Department is pleased to present a gang training seminar for education and business professionals with a need to have updated information in the area of gang activity. This conference will provide expert instruction focused on basic gang information geared toward community needs.

20-30 Global Youth Service Day in South Park
On Saturday, April 21, 2012 forty members of two Sonoma County Active 20-30 Clubs will gather at Community Action Partnership’s South Park Youth Center to celebrate Global Youth Service Day. Redwood Empire #1029 and Santa Rosa #50 will provide over $2500 worth of supplies and 200 hours of sweat equity.

Parents- First Teachers
The School Readiness staff is inaugurating its radio series, “Parents- First Teachers,” this Wednesday from 2-3 on KBBF. This will be a weekly, nine-part series on topics relating to parenting and school readiness. It will be done in Spanish. For the first week, we have guests from the County Health Department, discussing what parents can do prior to conception, during pregnancy, and for the first 2 years of life, to have healthy children who are eager to learn and ready to succeed in school, work, and life!

Clean Slate Tattoo Removal
A program of
Clean Slate helps former gang-affiliated youth and young adults take the final step in dissolving all their past gang ties through offering removal of gang-related tattoos.

Measure O Grant Supports New Playground for Roseland Elementary!

CHOICE Grant funded agency Martial Arts Youth Institute (MAYi) has released a video highlighting the success of their program. It includes youth and adult testimonials and a wonderful message about the discipline and social skills that are gained through this physical activity.

Schools of Hope
Schools of Hope, a major community initiative, was recently launched to help children build the critical reading skills needed for success in school and life. In partnership with local school districts, Sonoma County Office of Education, principals, teachers, parents, literacy experts, businesses, individual donors, and other non-profit partners, United Way is this coordinated effort to support child literacy.

THANK YOU from Valley Oak's Food Pantry
The Food Pantry at Valley Oak's Neighborhood Program is going strong thanks to the Active Men's 20/30 Club of Santa Rosa who donated $1500 and the Sunrise Kiwanis Club who donated $500. Thank you!!! The Food Pantry, organized by Recreation Specialist Mara Leon, has been serving families in the Valley Oak Park neighborhood for years. The program serves 65 families, feeding over 265 individuals, 195 of them children! |
